Online Bachelor of Arts for Sociologists

The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology uses the unique view and perspective of sociology to study all forms of human behavior and interaction from the individual and small groups to institutions and globalization. You will develop a sociological imagination that opens windows into unfamiliar worlds and provides a fresh look at familiar worlds. Research, empirical, and theoretical analysis skills, as well as critical thinking and information literacy skills will be developed. Knowledge gained in this online sociology degree is well suited to a career in politics, civil service, health care, family support services, public or private management, or law.

The curriculum for this online bachelor’s program is reviewed by an advisory council of industry experts for relevancy to today’s marketplace. Course topics include:

  • Research techniques, influences, and concepts
  • Key social institutions and contemporary social problems
  • Interactions of individuals, society, and cultures
  • Causes, theories, and control of deviant behavior
  • U.S. social development, culture, policies, and problems
  • American and European social philosophy
  • Race and ethnicity issues, solutions, and intervention
  • Environmental issues from social practices and values
  • Gender roles, stereotypes, and class positions
  • Sociology’s effect on religion, families, and law

  • Earn credits for your experience. Don’t leave your hard-earned credits behind. We offer no-cost transfer credit evaluation so you can possibly fast-track your education by earning credit for prior life experiences, college courses, or military service.
  • Books online at no cost. Textbooks and ebooks provided at no cost to all undergraduate students and master’s-level students eligible for the military tuition grant.
  • Serving the military. Active-duty servicemembers, their spouse and dependents, National Guard members, and Reservists are eligible to receive the military tuition grant. Additionally, they’re eligible for our university book grant, which provides no-cost textbooks and ebooks for undergraduate and master’s-level courses.
  • Help when you need it. Our excellent support staff can walk you through ways to fund your education, including federal student aid, military TA, veterans’ benefits, scholarships, private loans, and employer contributions.

*To minimize out-of-pocket costs, eligible active-duty servicemembers, their spouse/dependents, National Guard members, and Reservists receive a tuition grant that caps undergraduate, master's degree, and graduate certificate tuition at $250/credit hour. In addition, a master's-level book grant provides no-cost textbooks and ebooks for master’s-level courses to active-duty servicemembers, their spouse/dependents, National Guard members, and Reservists.
